Visit, Philabaum Glass Gallery
There are very few places in the world where you can see a curated collection of fine glass art. In Arizona, the only all glass art gallery is located in Tucson at the Philabaum Glass Gallery. Located in the picturesque Plaza Colonial at Skyline and Campbell in the foothills of the Catalina Mountains, Philabaum boasts the largest collection of contemporary glass on the West Coast, featuring over 200 pieces by nationally acclaimed artists.
The mix of local and national artists, including 30 from Arizona, celebrates regional talent and national innovation. From shimmering blown glass vessels, sculptural masterpieces, and intricate fused glass tapestries to smaller, thoughtful gifts like delicate perfume bottles, hand-blown glass birds, artful jewelry, and functional pieces like stemware and bowls, there’s something for every admirer of glass beauty. Interactive iPads positioned throughout the gallery feature videos of artists at work, offering a behind-the scenes glimpse into the intricate techniques that make each piece truly exceptional.
The gallery was founded by pioneering glassblower Tom Philabaum in 1982. Although he has retired, his legacy lives on through the Sonoran Glass School, which he co-founded. Today, Philabaum Glass Gallery is owned and managed by Alison and Dylan Harvey. Alison is a passionate art historian and glass expert who managed the gallery for a decade before purchasing it in 2020.
Guests are welcome to browse the collection and are encouraged to ask questions about the pieces. Every first Thursday of the month, join in the Foothills Art District’s Art Walk from 4 to 7 p.m. to meet visiting artists, see new installations and enjoy refreshments. In the spring, you can expect themed exhibitions, such as their all-female glass artist showcase, which brings fresh voices and perspectives to Tucson’s art scene.
