Among the museum’s biggest draws is its extensive Banksy collection, featuring works by the elusive British street artist whose thought-provoking pieces have become icons of contemporary art. Another major attraction is The Beatles: Pop, Power, and Persona installation. The newly expanded exhibit celebrates the Fab Four’s enduring influence with rare memorabilia, including a Revolver album cover signed by all four Beatles, original 1960s film posters, handwritten song lyrics, vintage lunch boxes, bobbleheads, and more.
“I’ve spoken to guests who come in and say they don’t really like museums, but they’re huge Beatles fans,” said Founder and Museum Director Sloane Bouchever. “Then they spend hours here, walking out in tears because they’re so touched by the power of the art.”
This fall, AF brings acclaimed artist Shepard Fairey to Bisbee. Perhaps best known for creating the iconic Obama “HOPE” poster, this American street artist, activist, and founder of OBEY Clothing will be painting three new murals at Artemizia—one celebrating the power of the people, one promoting peace, and another honoring women artists (featuring Nadya Tolokonnikova).
“Shepard Fairey is also creating an exclusive print for AF that will only be available through our museum’s gift shop, with proceeds funding a scholarship for art students,” said Bouchever. “And we’re excited that he’ll be coming back in a year to do a solo exhibition at AF’s Gallery 818.”
